WONDROUS OBSESSIONS: THE ART OF COLLECTING

This Friday sees the opening of the “Wondrous Obsessions: The Art of Collecting”, an exhibition curated by The Connor Brothers at Hang-Up Gallery in London.

You can see the pre-show interview I did with Mike Snelle here

To view the collection of works by Butch Anthony, Candice Tripp, The Connor Brothers, Dr. Victor Schroeder, Giles Walker, Joe Webb, John Henry Toney, Laura Keeble, Mark Powell and Swoon, you can see the catalogue here.

Don’t forget to RSVP to the Private View launch this Thursday from 6 – 9 pm. RSVP is essential as spaces are already limited – please do so here.

The show’s theme provided me a chance to let go of any stylistic restraints I (now realise that I unthinkingly) impose on myself as well as exhibit a one-off etching from Goldmark Atelier that would otherwise have remained hidden in my studio.

The collaborative painting that Butch Anthony and I worked on together will also be on show for the first time in the UK. Receiving that canvas from the US was something of a treat because until recently, I had only seen’s Butch’s addition online.

Bangkok 02: baking

bangkok

Ideal Brown and I left Bangkok for two weeks to squeeze as many new miles into Thailand as we could. When we returned, I saw him off a day after his initial flight departed (ouch) and got settled in my hotel room-come-studio.

I spent the week running back and forth to Beejoir’s house with a baking pan containing pieces of doll in various stages of completion – detailed here, with pictures of food:

icecream

Every day an ice-cream man would visit the road. As soon as I’d hear his bell, I’d scramble to my third floor balcony and shout “Sawadee ka, WAIT? WAIT, WAIT!” and then I’d tear downstairs to buy as many varieties of coconut as I could carry.

Online Charity Auction with Solidarty.org

03c

Bidding ends in 6 hours!

(the brilliant) Laura Keeble and I have collaborated on 3 sets of painted 2p coins in an effort to raise funds for the refugee crisis through Solidarty.org

The work is entitled “Two by Two” and consists of three sets.
Each coin is a 2p copper piece, painted in enamel, with the artists’ names stamped on the back (pictured)
We wanted the starting price to match the coinage, so bidding on each pair started at 4p.

Back in May I framed and sold 5 of these and until now, I haven’t found the time to make more.
Please note, these are being sold unframed – this way the price and shipping is friendlier and it opens up framing options to multiples.

When I realised that I’d have a whole week free before Christmas, I decided it was now or never for a mask making session. For those who have been asking for masks, apologies for not being able to get this off the ground earlier.

If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line!

* high res printable “gift in process” card available for belated Christmas presents *

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! As for New Year…don’t listen to any Bob Dylan, be sure to drink lots of water let’s just get across that bastard line unscathed.

I’m as grateful as ever for the support you all show me- so thank you very much! I love my job.

Find Sally: San Diego Comic-Con

San Diego Comic-Con art hunt Candice Tripp sally doll

Sally #52

From what I’ve heard of Comic-Con, next to nobody will have time to pee let alone keep an eye out for a 6″ high doll, but supposing you just happen to see her, she’s yours.

The clue is likely to drop this Friday, so watch my instagram feed for immediate information, or this here blog for belated, slightly delayed information.

If I’m being realistic I’m half expecting her to get trampled or swept away. But that’s okay. It’s part of the fun (for me).

Brad of earlier skull related blog posts has kindly offered to do this for me (thanks, Brad!) I won’t actually be there myself, but if you are, I hope you have an excellent time.
