Although it feels like this project has been in the pipeline for 100 years, speaking realistically it’s probably closer to a far more spry 10 year old undertaking.
Jeff Antebi of Waxploitation has been tirelessly working with artists both visual and musical to create Stories for Ways and Means:
“Today, 29 of those pairings make up the 350 page book project called Stories for Ways & Means.
The book includes stories from Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Frank Black, Justin Vernon, Laura Marling, Devendra Banhart, Alison Mosshart and Kathleen Hanna as well as painters/illustrators like Anthony Lister, Dan Baldwin, Swoon, Will Barras, James Jean, Ronzo, Kai & Sunny, and more (THAT’S ME, MOM!)
Guest narrators came along for fun as featured voices in short promo films: Danny Devito, Zach Galifianakis, Nick Offerman, Phil LaMarr, King Krule, and Lauren Lapkus. ”
I was partnered with Eugene Hutz of Gogol Bordello, who wrote “Trickster and Boy with Crooked Grin”. You can see the art I provided for it in the video below, put together by Ideal Brown.
“Black Rat Projects would like to invite you to our Summer Party. On Saturday July 16th during the day we are teaming up with Cargo club next door whose expert chefs will cook up a bbq for BRP’s guests. This is a day for all the family: Matt Small will be doing one of his legendary workshops for the younger audience (if there’s space grown-ups can join in too…). To book for your kids email firstname.lastname@example.org with an optional £10 donation to ZAMCOG charity.
The day will mark the release of Lucas Price’s new print “Telepathic Heights”. The new edition (each one is uniquely hand coloured) will be hung among works by BRP friends, new and old, including: Swoon, Matt Small, Giles Walker, Candice Tripp, ROA and Brian Dettmer and Best Ever.
The show will be a review of this year’s projects, and an ode to the artists who have made the space what it is, as well as a look forward to future projects as we welcome ROA, Candice Tripp and Brian Dettmer into the fold.
There will be beer, bbq food, live painting from Best Ever and much more!”
So! I found Black Rat Projects!
Lyn and Co and Ty and Co and Vin and Omi (of Vin and Omi) and Stuey (of Art Land) and my mom and Teresa were all there, which was lovely. Thanks so much for coming, chaps. I love you fuckers.
Ideal Brown was missed. It just wasn’t the same without the stick man with his big round head. So for him (and anybody else who may be interested) this is sort of what Printmaking Today looked like (best show lighting I’ve seen, just by the way)
A private collection of work will be exhibited at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in Stoke from February 7th until May 10th.
I’ll have three canvases in the show and was very lucky in that the title has been taken from one of my featured pieces.
Other artists include Banksy, Adam Neate, Swoon and Elbowtoe.
