Dry Well

I have this niggling concern that by painting the hand-cranked well, I've destroyed a real piece of toy-making history. I can find only one similar toy, and it looks like a cheap, new iteration, if you could call something from the 1960's "new".
It bears the maker's mark of "DC". I have no idea what material the man is made from, but I would guess it is some kind of aged resin. I gave him a devil's red-face and peppered his dry well with skulls carved out of pearls.
