Cat intaglio carved into a 14mm x 19mm flat-top oval turquoise cabochon set in silver.

As with my wax work, all stone carving is done by me in my Newcastle upon Tyne studio in the UK. I use diamond-coated discs and burrs, and the process gives me the most colourful headache.
I bought this beautiful turquoise cabochon with no visible inclusions from a gem dealer in Jaipur and immediately envisioned a cat carved into it. I've sat on it for two years, mustering the confidence to mar the perfectly polished surface with my tools.
